For over four decades in a small town on the pacific coast of Ecuador, the art of balsa working has been preserved in a virtual time capsule. Under the gracious instruction of a saint of balsa-shaping, Skip “Andres” Kozminski, a family of Ecuadorian shapers and woodworkers have honed their skills and timeless knowledge of the craft, practicing their art as it existed in the golden years of balsa surf culture. Decades later, combined with innovative design, top-end materials, and one-of-a-kind, custom hardwood inlays, BalsaTribe is bringing a classic art solidly into the 21st century. Working exclusively with family run balsa plantations, we strive to keep our boards eco-conscious and guided by fair trade business ethics. We donate much of our proceeds to indigenous federations, preserving the millennial way of life in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Entirely handmade in our workshop on the beautiful Ecuadorian coast, and specializing in fully custom, multi-chambered, pure balsa boards with extensive hardwood inlays, BalsaTribe is proud to present a truly revolutionary line of surfboards. |
